Also, thank you to the SVSU Bookstore for their donation to our basket and to the MESSA office for items as well. Thanks Karen, Kathie and Jennifer!!! What a beautiful tree!!

Thank you to all our members who came to the Union picnic on Wednesday, the hottest day of the summer so far, for food, conversation, and solidarity. We hope you enjoyed the food, your new T-shirt and the other SWAG and information your Executive Board made available to you that day. We fed over 50 people during the day and boxed up lunches for 30 people on second and third shifts. We will be holding another picnic on August 17th and an ice cream truck on July 27th. Stay tuned for those announcements. In solidarity, Deb, Kathleen and the Executive Board Did you know?
Did you know that Detective Persails from the University Police is trained in ALICE? (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) He would be more than happy to coordinate training with your department for staff and students. You can contact him at rcperai@svsu.edu. Thank you Kathleen How does the MEA decide which candidates to support during elections?
All members should be assured that the MEA is always interested in monetarily supporting any candidate that is a friend of public education, regardless of political party. There is a Screening & Recommendations (S&R) committee for just this purpose. Deb Rickert, the SVSU Support Staff Association’s VP serves on the S&R committee for this Region. All candidates running for public office are sent a set of questions to answer if they are interested in applying for MEA Pac funds. After submitting answers to the screening questions, they meet in person with the committee for an in-person interview and then the committee votes whether to support the candidate with Pac funds. Again, political affiliation does not matter. All friends of Public Education will be accepted. Unfortunately, there are times where a candidate is friendly to Public Education but feels an endorsement from MEA could hurt them politically, so they do not apply for funding, but still contact their personal connections within the MEA to discuss policies. If anyone has questions regarding the above process, please feel free to contact Deb Rickert, she will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Summer weather is here and the SSA is happy to announce that we are going to hold picnics again! Our first picnic is on June 15th, 2022 11:00am - 2:00pm at the Pine Grove Community Center. Please see your email for the RSVP link.
Any member in good standing will receive $10 in Food Truck tickets for Saturday, April 9. Please look out for the SSA tent to pick up your tickets. Everything is FREE except the Food trucks; liability waivers will need to be signed. I hope to see you there. Positive thoughts for nicer weather. 🙂 If you have questions, feel free to contact me. In solidarity, Kathleen Kathleen Chantaca-Kubczak SVSU Support Staff Association, President First off - a huge thank you to our previous board and stewards for all their hard work during their term of office! Secondly, welcome to our new board, and thank you to all those who stepped forward to support the Saginaw Valley State University Support Staff Association! Sincerely, Patricia Altergott Proud SSA Member Greetings,
